Jakarta Fashion Week

The Raffles Design Student Fashion Show is an annual runway show hosted by Jakarta Fashion Week. It is one Jakarta’s finest and one of the coolest shows many fashionistas from different parts of world and including professionals in the industry would not want to miss.

It features student designers and showcases their own designs and collections.
The interesting about their show is that it never loses the touch of their culture. You can really see that in their designs – although they are very current but Jakarta with an interestingly wonderful twist in it, you can’t help but love it.
Even if it shows the culture in the design, it is not too “Jakarta-ish” or that it only suits their kind of people, the thing is that the culture touch in the designs make the garments even more interesting and unique.
Sometimes some designers in other shows from other countries, when they put their culture in their design, they fail to make in look appealing to the mass, because they look more like a costume instead of dress, so they don’t click to the people.
These on the other hand, is what professionals in the industry are looking for, they come from different point and parts of the world and they want to bring something different unique, something present but has something in it that is not they’re used to but looks really gorgeous and fashionable.
Kudos to these students for their show’s remarkable success, but that isn’t a surprise; they never fail to bring something new and creative.
The next fashion week is already anticipated by many who could not wait to see what these promising and talented student designers have in store.

Annual Parsons Benefit Show

There were thirty four promising and talented student designers from Parsons New School of Design who presented their collections during the Annual Parsons Fashion Benefit.

They had four years of training and study in Parsons, and it all paved. They all have evolved so well and it all can be seen on their collections and designs.

There were varied designs and categories, for men and women and for children. Each piece was interestingly designed, very present, wearable and comfortable.
Among the favorite were that of the children‘s wear, they look really pretty and cute, you could tell that the details were very thought of and that each layered piece matched each other and made a perfectly fashionable ensemble, you could imagine yourself wearing and or wear in a heartbeat.
The collections were judge by professionals in the fashion industry and some successful Parsons Alumnae like Lisa Maycock, Jenna Lyons and Gloria Baume of Teen Vogue.
They were all there to influence and encourage young designers who hopes and dreams of making a career in fashion and design and also to give back by sharing their knowledge and talent and supporting student designers.
The show was a huge success, although it always is yearly. The designs were exquisite, very present and current but not very common and has its uniqueness, simple in some way yet have that glamorous look in it, especially the women’s wear.
It’s very interesting to see how they creatively layered each colour and prints and the cuts and wonderfully tailored.
They have most definitely set a new trend, even the children’s wear were very striking but very pretty. It’s like a Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez but like a younger and fresher version.

Recognizing SAIC's Upcoming Designers

The School of the Arts Institute of Chicago hosted an Annual Fashion Show and Exhibition in its new studio for fashion design as well as for exhibition space. Both are located on the 7th floor of the famous and historic Sullivan Center.

The whole show was produced solely by SAIC’s students along with the faculty and staff. Although they had this new venue and studio, the show is not its first event. It has been SAIC annual tradition to host a fashion show as a celebration and culmination of its graduating student’s years of training and hard works and to recognize their tremendous accomplishments.

It showcased the innovative and uniquely creative students’ fashion collection. There were variety designs, from the hot couture and elegant dresses down to some ready to wear outfits, some were conceptual in approach and some were socially engaging.
Every design speaks for itself, unique and is exquisite as the others. You can really tell the designers paid so much attention to every detail on each of the creation.
The show was packed with a lot of professionals in the fashion industry, some fashion experts and celebrities who were searching for new ideas and talents. Surely they have found more that what they hope to find. No doubt!
